Summer hair color trends 2012

The right color highlights accentuate eyes, complement skin tone, and to pass a sunny glow to dull locks. Here, top colorists Erin Bogart Sally Hershberger Downtown New York and Stuart Gavert, co-owner of Gavert Atelier in Beverly Hills, revealing their summer hair tips.

Hair Color Trend for Brunettes: Surfer Strands
Hollywood brunettes Alexa Chung (see right) and Rachel Bilson have been sporting dark roots with light pieces around the face, a "surfer" look that says Bogart is trendy for the summer.

"Surfers have the best natural highlights, there is no stop or start them," says Gavert. "The sun illuminates their hair in such a way that it is the perfect graduation from dark to light."

For surfers strands to get without hitting the waves, Bogart recommends having your colorist do "thick pieces of white under the chin, so as not washing your skin, and a few hand-painted, less bright pieces around the face . " According to Bogart, should medium brunettes, like Alexa Chung gets a "creamy gold" color on the ends and a "warm caramel" closer to the face. "You can get away with much more fairness to the ends," she says.

Trend Hair for Blonds: Platinum Locks
Reese Witherspoon recently her golden blonde locks for a high wattage traded platinum tint, a color Bogart says is "huge" for the summer at least for those who do not bet-phobic. "Double-processed blonde is very high maintenance if not redone every five weeks, your roots begin to show," she explains, adding that when going platinum that it is important to see a professional . "It is difficult to do at home. The heat from your head makes it easier and faster process you may end up with a white-blonde color at the root and a darker orange color starting half an inch down."

Recessionista and / or lower-maintenance blondes can opt for pale beige-gold highlights, Bogart says: "The moment you lighter on your hair dark yellow. But if you add a little beige in the toner then, it will neutralize the yellow and take the brassiness out. "

For natural blonde highlights, Gavert suggests expertly coating strands with conditioner before the long runs outside. "A conditioner acts as a sunscreen, even if no UV filters, because it creates a barrier between the sun and it makes your hair strands also glossier and more light-reflective," he says. "Some pieces of hair around your hand and pull out the sides and smooth with the rest of the conditioner in a bun or ponytail. The pristine pieces will be lighter in the sun longer, creating natural highlights."

Best Hair Color for your skin tone and eyes
To ensure a healthy glow for the summer, the color of your highlights to enhance your face, not away from. Generally say Gavert and Bogart, warm skin tones should be accompanied with warm hair colors (think maroon, red, copper and gold) and cool skin tones should be combined with its cool colors (in the ash family). "If someone with a warm skin its color is gray, her skin may look green," says Bogart. On the other hand, can cooler tone that is too hot wearing highlights appear pale and washed out. For example, Gavert says that those with yellow undertones in their skin should avoid hair that is golden or their face will appear pale.

Although a summer tan your colorist can throw for a loop, "the veins on the inside of the wrist of a person reveal their true color," says Bogart. "Someone with a warm skin gets more green veins, while someone with a cool color will be bluer people."

Another indicator of the skin tone, eye color. While the blue eyes indicate a cool skin tone and brown eyes are warm brown eyes can vary. "Brown eyes are generally warm, but a dark golden brown without spots can be cool," says Bogart. Green eyes (pure green or green with a hint of brown) are flattered by both cool and warm hair colors, says Bogart.

If you want to bring your emerald green eyes, red is the ideal hair color, says Gavert ". Red and green are direct polar opposites on the color wheel and therefore complement" Skin with heavy pink undertone, however, must be mixed with brown or maroon copper on its bright, fiery rouge. "If someone reddish skin blushes all the time they are going to red or rosacea can improve," says Gavert.

Summer Hair Care How-To
It does not matter what color you apply to your coif, good care is necessary to make it lively. "Sunlight, chlorine and salt water are hard on colored hair. Farther your hair its natural color, the harder it is to maintain the midst of the environmental elements," says Gavert.

In order to protect the blonde turn green in a chlorinated pool, Bogart said strands in freshwater weeks, conditioner and run by them: "In this way, the blonde does not absorb the chlorine." She also recommends the use of a sun-shielding syringes ("I've had good results with the new Kerastase Soleil Aqua-Seal").

As for summer cleaning, Bogart says to avoid overshampooing color treated tresses: "detergents in shampoos is what color fades, but many of my customers are often gym-goers and need to wash their hair regularly. I tell them to shampoo every other day at the most. To-refresh on the days between, mixing conditioner with water and scrub your scalp. Conditioner has cleansing properties too, but will not dry your hair fade like shampoo will a-volumizing formula leaves hair look clean and not weighed down. "
